St. Louis, MO – Leading online learning provider BizLibrary announces that client Stevens Institute of Technology wins USLDA Gold Innovation Award for their use of learning technology to improve retention between semesters.

Stevens is a private research university located in Hoboken, NJ and offers programs in science, technology, engineering, and more. Stevens used BizLibrary technology to set out to beat the “Forgetting Curve” – the idea that up to 70% of knowledge is lost within 24 hours after a training event and 90% is lost after a week.

To help students beat the forgetting curve, they had them periodically recall key course concepts at specific intervals during the semester and after the semester had ended. They used BizLibrary technology to send multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, true/false, and opened-ended questions via email to students at specific intervals to help recall key information from courses they just completed.

“Our goal was to engage students between semesters and add to their learning experience in a new and meaningful way,” said Robert Zotti, Stevens’ assistant dean of WebCampus.

Stevens set out to accomplish goals with this initiative:

-Increase student engagement

-Increase student retention of core course content

-Add extra value to the online learning experience

-Provide instructors with additional data points for course improvement

-Enhance academic program assessments for accreditation purposes

To date, Stevens has 12 semesters’ worth of data and has more than 7,500 BoosterLearn enrollments for both online and in-person courses.

Stevens received a Gold Innovation Award in Higher Ed for Boosted Learning: Continued Learning Between the semesters from United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA). The USDLA International Distance Learning Awards are created to acknowledge major accomplishments in distance learning and to highlight those distance learning instructors, programs, and professionals who have achieved and demonstrated extraordinary achievements through the use of online, augmented, virtual reality, videoconferencing, and satellite/video delivery technologies globally.

“BizLibrary is proud to partner with Stevens Institute of Technology and support them in their innovative and creative approach to helping improve learning retention,” said BizLibrary VP of Marketing, Paul Eschen.
