Strategies for Better Balance

Summary:

Although the term "work life balance" is often heard, this implies that work is something separate from life rather than an integral part. It might also give the impression that work is something we have to do - a necessary evil - in order to live, rather than an aspect of our lives that can, for many people, be immensely satisfying and energizing. The term life balance, on the other hand, enables us to consider all aspects of our lives as a whole and make decisions about where we want to focus our attention. There is no set formula for a balanced life. What constitutes an effective balance for one person may be totally out of whack for another. Achieving life balance largely depends on considering which activities are energy enhancing, and which are energy draining, and making adjustments accordingly. So, it cannot be assumed that being out of balance is the result of too much work, or work that is too challenging. It may involve spending time on different aspects of our lives, adopting a more effective approach, changing our behaviors or beliefs, or strengthening our support structures in some way. This series will enable you to explore what living a balanced life means for you and how you can achieve it. It will help you identify the benefits for you, your friends and family and your organization. As a result, you will become even more effective in your personal and professional lives.
