Moving into a Management Role

Total Items: 6 Total Time: 18 hour(s)

Summary:

Managers play an important role in most organizations - they plan, organize, control, co-ordinate work and lead and develop their staff. Promotion into a management role is often a logical progression and a desired goal, but management requires special skills, some of which are quite different from those needed by the new manager in their previous technical or functional job. Of course, promotion is something to celebrate and indicates a high level of achievement and ability. But moving into unknown territory is always disconcerting. A new manager, or someone hoping to make the move soon, will benefit from a clearer understanding of the demands of the new role and how it will change their relationship with others inside and outside the organization.
