1. Winning the Talent War - The Demand for the Development of Managers

The combination of a looming skills shortage, and the business imperative of driving performance through management excellence, provides a compelling argument for developing and implementing comprehensive management development programs. Add to this potent brew a number of other factors, including competitive pressures, the impact of mergers and acquisitions, changes in company strategy and market focus, and the need for management development only becomes more imperative. As a result, organizations across all geographies are finding themselves in a war for talent, and nowhere is that more apparent than at the managerial level.

Many organizations now recognize that on-demand answer finding is a primary source of employees’ daily learning, and are searching for ways to support this informal learning in tandem with their more formalized blended training programs. This paper provides a structure for combining formal and informal learning resources within a blended learning model, by outlining eight steps for blended learning.Download Business Training Library’s white paper to learn how one might start this task.

2. Business Training Library Recognizes Employee Learning Week 2005

To grow and compete in today’s global economy, organizations must have a highly skilled, knowledgeable workforce. Employee Learning Week 2005 (December 5-9, 2005), declared by the American Society for Training & Development provides an opportunity for business leaders and managers to close the gap between worker skills and today’s job requirements and recognize the value of employee learning within their organizations.

This December, Business Training Library will encourage all of our members to promote Employee Learning within their organizations. We invite organizations to participate in the following ways:

  • Introduce a new benefit to employees—one designed to promote learning and development within the organization.
  • Cross-train: Pair up employees and/or departments so they can learn from each other.
  • Encourage employees to join and become involved in a professional organization
  • Invite employees to a “Lunch and Learn” event to discuss learning opportunities and skills development in the office and around the community.
  • Implement a recurring CEO question and answer forum to disseminate business-critical information to employees.
  • Create individual development plans with employees, ensuring that learning is incorporated into all of their goals.

3. Review of Sexual Harassment Awareness for Supervisors and Managers

Course Number
LCO0202

Course Group
Legal Compliance

Course Overview
Training managers and supervisors about the areas of prohibited conduct is an important part of reducing liability. Company managers have an additional responsibility to both their employees and their company to know their role in preventing and responding to sexual harassment. Each company should have a policy on the issue of sexual harassment, outlining clear guidelines to deal with this issue. Every manager is accountable for knowing the laws, guidelines, policies, and resources for correcting, preventing, and investigating sexual harassment complaints. This two-hour course can help your company demonstrate its commitment to a fair, responsible, and healthy organizational environment, free from harassment and intimidation. California law requires that the learner must spend two hours on this course; employers should maintain records indicating such.

Target Audience
Employees in a supervisory capacity within an organization, but applies to all employees

Shannon's Review
This course starts off defining sexual harassment

It proceeds on by defining ways that harassment can be prevented. The scenarios and examples are current and up to date. In the event sexual harassment occurs in the workplace it reviews a step-by-step process from receiving a complaint to launching an appropriate investigation and discussing how to best help a victim.

What I liked best about this course are the skill briefs and job aids. Several skill briefs provide examples and procedures to help organizations write a formal policy. There are 16 printable handouts and reference material that can be used in a group session or for individual reference

This is a great course for anyone in a management or supervisory role to better understand roles and responsibilities. Sexual harassment is not an easy topic to train on. This course is to the point and covers all necessary areas.
