Yes, each user in the system has a button for 'My Reports' where you can check on the status of your courses, see your scores, and several other details for the courseware. We recommend using Internet Explorer 5.0+. While other browsers will work with the CompanyCollege LMS, sometimes using different browsers can produce unpredictable results. SkillSoft courses support Internet Explorer and FireFox browser, while Mindleaders courses only support Internet Explorer. Proprietary browsers, such as AOL, or special versions of Internet Explorer given to you by your Internet Service Provider should also be avoided. If you are using AOL you can establish an internet connection by signing on and then open Internet Explorer and login to the CompanyCollege LMS. If you are using a Macintosh please be sure that you are using Safari 2.0+.

When I play a course, the sound is distorted.
Most of the courseware will use Java technologies to render page graphics and sound, and it's possible that and dissonant audio is a result of an incompatible Java version. Please run our browser test and see if the version of Java is above 1.6.0. If your version of Java is higher please remove the incompatible versions. For more information please consult our Java Runtime Environment or Microsoft Virtual Machine Questions.

Do I need to configure the Java Runtime Environment or Microsoft VM for firewalls or proxies?
Yes. In general, if you can view the CompanyCollege web site http://www.companycollege.com, then you can play a course from the Learning Management System. The only exception to this is if the firewall or proxy server at your site is filtering Java applets or compiled code. In this case the SkillSoft course Player will not be able to load properly. Check with your Network Administrator to see if this applies to you. In addition, if you are taking SkillSoft courses from home, please ensure that any personal firewall software is either disabled, or configured to allow JavaScript to pass into and from your home PC.

Is the Java Runtime Environment or Microsoft VM configured to run in my web browser?
You can check your Java installation by viewing the configuration options for your web browser. Please open an Internet Explorer window, select Tools and then Internet Options. Once you are in the Internet Options window please click on the advanced tab. You should be able to scroll down and find a section for Java and/or Microsoft VM. Please be sure that the option to "Use JRE ..." is checked, or the option for the JIT compiler is checked under Microsoft VM.

The Java plug-in operates in your web browser as an add-on, which may be disabled. To check and see if the add-on is enabled please follow these steps. Select Tools and then the option for Manage Add-ons. When viewing the add-ons search for the Java Plug-In and be sure that it is enabled.

When I click on “Play this course” the window hangs on “Loading please wait.”
The Skillsoft course player uses Java-based code and technology to pass data between the server and the end user. The player can hang as a result of Java not being installed on your workstation. The course player may also hang if Java is being blocked or filtered from running in your web browser or by a firewall. If you are on the screen with the "Loading please wait" message for longer than 2 minutes on a high speed connection and 5 minutes on a dial up connection, please verify that you have Java installed by running our browser test. The course player will also hang if the certificate, mentioned in the previous section, is not accepted.
First, check to see if this is a wide spread issue or an individual machine error. If it is a system wide error (all users have this issue or all users at this location have this issue).
If it is system wide it is usually the applet being blocked or filtered at the Proxy/Firewall and your IT department may need to change the settings on the Proxy/Firewall.
If it is an individual issue, please verify that the correct Java version is installed and configured for your web browser.
Please note : The resolution for this issue could involve altering your system files or downloading from the Internet. Assistance from your IT department may be required.
If you are using Internet Explorer or Firefox, please choose the appropriate download for your operating system:
At the file download prompt choose to run (open) it from it’s current location . Click OK or YES to any of the questions you will be prompted with.
** Note: The "Auto Update" feature in the Sun Java Plug-in may upgrade your version past the supported release level. After installing the plug-in, please disable this feature:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Java Plug-in -> Update Tab -> Uncheck "Check for Updates Automatically"
If you are still having difficulties launching a course, please contact our tech support staff at 888.432.3077 x142 so that we may assist you with the proper download.

When I launch a course a message appears saying, "The applications digital signature has encountered an error."
The message will appear if your browser validates the date of the certificate. If you see this error, please check in this option for "Always Trust Content from this Provider," and select Run.

While playing a course I receive a message appears saying, "The Skillsoft Player has encountered an error communicating with the LMS server."
The error message can also occur for the following reasons:
A temporary network error has occurred, and that the Player cannot communicate with the LMS server. Check all network connections and if on a dial up be sure that the you are still connected.
While the course is loading you may be prompted to accept a certificate from the SkillSoft Corporation, or receive a message saying, "The applications digital signature has an error..." Please check in the box for "always trust content for this provider" then select run.
If you exit a course, but then immediately re-enter the course from the Summary page. This will cause the error as well because SkillSoft closes out the session ID used by the LMS upon exit of the course. When re-entering, the session ID is invalid and the course will not function properly. Please exit to the My Resources page before re-launching the course.
Improper firewall configuration can cause this error dialog box. Java must be allowed to pass through for proper function of the courseware.
If you recieve this message please close down the course window and run our Browser Test to verify that you have Java installed and that the version is compatible.
