1. Align 2011 Keynote Speaker: Eve Ash

Eve Ash is a psychologist, author, filmmaker, public speaker and entrepreneur.

Eve worked for the Australian Government as a psychologist and trainer, and founded Seven Dimensions in 1979. She pioneered the comedy training film business in Australia, working with Australia's best creative talents, including John Clarke, Ian McFadyen, Peter Moon, Graeme Blundell, Julie McGregor and Ted Robinson. In 1986 she teamed up with fellow psychologist, Peter Quarry, to create another internationally successful company - Ash.Quarry Productions.

Eve is one of Australia's most successful producers of training films, television and multimedia packages. Through her two companies, Seven Dimensions and Ash.Quarry Productions, Eve has produced over 500 training films, DVDs and television episodes. Eve and Peter Quarry created the SKILL INDICATORS - feedback assessment tools, now sold to Dutch company TFC and the Ash.Quarry range of DVDs and videos is now owned by VEA/Training Point.net.

Eve is a national winner of the Telstra Businesswomen's Awards (Westpac Business Owner Award1999), and her programs have won top honours at festivals in NY, Chicago and London - in all over 140 awards for creativity and excellence.

Eve trained and worked as a psychologist, and is now a popular public speaker, MC and business facilitator. Her books Rewrite Your Life! (2002) and Rewrite Your Relationships! (2004) (co-written by Rob Gerrand) were published by Penguin Books.

Eve's Strategies for Success

  1. Enjoy yourself at work and stay fit. You will be energized and need less sleep! And nights are a great time to tackle a backlog or do overseas business.
  2. Don't give up when faced with obstacles. Negativity spreads easily, so when things are challenging, go for it while others stop to complain. Find and use your optimism - it will bring others with you.
  3. Give yourself positive 'scripts' like "Yes, I can do this", "I will be organized and finish this today" and "I am going to enjoy this challenge".
  4. Remember to thank people for their work, their ideas, their support and their contribution to your success. People appreciate being acknowledged and it doesn't take long to say, or email a personal thank you.
  5. Follow your ideas, tell people about them and take risks to make them happen. Don't be someone who says "I thought of that". Be someone who can say "I made that happen".

3. SHRM 2011, Las Vegas, NV - June 26-29th
The Conference was attended by a record 14,000+ HR and industry professionals this year. All of whom made their way to Las Vegas to learn, network and maybe even have a lot of fun.

Conference highlights included the announcement of Hank Jackson as the new SHRM CEO, keynotes by Sir Richard Branson, Arianna Huffington, Tony Hsieh and Michael J. Fox. The Expo Hall was high-energy and bustling with games, photos, food, drinks, dogs, superheros and endless amounts of swag.

From a vendor/exhibitor perspective, some key takeaways:
  • Training remains a key challenge for small and mid-sized organizations.
  • Many organizations are open and ready for online training as a solution to key business challenges. Two critical challenges they are addressing are the need to do more with less and a dispersed workforce.
  • Social Media is here to stay in the HR Community!
  • I don't think anyone stole Mike Tyson's tiger, but people like to have fun and get a little wild in Vegas.

Looking forward to SHRM 2012 in Atlanta!
